n8n defines an execution as one complete run of a workflow, regardless of how many steps it contains or how much data it processes. Hosting and licence needs can matter as much as the execution allowance.

Worked cost examples
Illustrative usage-unit example — not a quoted price.
A workflow triggered 1,000 times in a month represents 1,000 workflow executions under n8n's published definition, even if the workflow contains several steps. Failed or repeated runs still need to be included according to the usage shown in the workspace.
For self-hosting, add infrastructure, backups, upgrades, monitoring and operator time; the Community Edition is source-available under n8n's licence terms, not an OSI-approved open-source licence.
Costs to watch
Self-hosting shifts infrastructure and maintenance costs to the operator. Cloud execution limits, concurrency, log retention and enterprise features should be checked on the current plan. Customer-facing hosting can require a separate commercial agreement.
Which plan to choose
Choose cloud when managed operations are worth more than infrastructure control. Choose a self-hosted plan only after reviewing licence fit, upgrade ownership, backups and security responsibilities.
